Let’s talk lighting!

Have you ever had the chance to pick out every single light fixture for an entire home…all at once? It’s fun! And it feels like a big deal since lighting has such a wonderful ability to set the stylistic tone of a space.

With the electrician close to finishing the rough in electrical, I thought it would be fun to share all the lights I selected for the flip. The goal here is to reference the history of the home a bit, with some fixtures being a nod to the 1920’s, but also make sure it feels modern and updated.
Some of the fixtures that accomplish this well are the white & black fixtures I selected here for the main areas of the house:

In the two smaller bedrooms we had our electrician add ceiling fan boxes (there was no overhead lighting previously), and since the rooms are small I wanted something visually light and neutral:

I also wanted to add a bit of a vintage vibe in the hall bath, so I went with this unique vanity light:

But back in the master bedroom and bathroom we’re going with a bit more of an updated transitional vibe, so I went a slightly brighter direction:

And outdoors I wanted to complement our future dark paint color (no, it’s not painted yet…but maybe soon?) so I went with bright copper and black:

Yes, I know that mailbox is not a light. But it’s going on the front porch with the copper lights so I couldn’t resist showing them together!

We’re also adding recessed lighting in a few spots. All together, these lights cross quite a variety of styles, and range a lot in finishes. Is that good? Is that bad? To me, it’s a good thing. The house is 100 years old. I didn’t want the lighting fixtures to look like they came from one brand, family or collection. There will be cohesion within zones, while offering a collected look across the house.

And let me just say, this house is going to be lit!

We’re going to go from having SIX light fixtures in the entire house…to THIRTY just on the main level, with more outside and in the basement.

Now the lights are patiently waiting in storage for their time to come. We have a lot of messy, dusty work to do in the house before I can show you these beauties installed. And we’ve been sidetracked on the interior by some major exterior work that I’ll share next week!

In the meantime, if you’re interested in looking at any of these Wayfair lights for yourself, you’ll find links below:
