Holiday Decorating: Summer to Winter
December 3, 2019 - This post is sponsored by Wayfair
Remember my bright and colorful office space?
I realized as the holiday season approached that I wanted to make some little decorating changes in here to create more of a winter look (instead of the bright and colorful summer look). So I partnered with Wayfair to get a few items for the space, and I thought I’d share how I changed things up to decorate for the holidays – and the winter season – this year!
CHANGE 1: THE COLOR PALETTE
While I love how colorful the room is, it just didn’t match the season anymore. The room is predominately white, yellow, blue and red. I thought about removing the yellow touches, but then the room would be red, white and blue… a patriotic look is not what I am going for this time of year! I can’t remove the white (my desk and built in cabinets) and I can’t remove the blue (my sofa, chair and loveseat cushion) so I decided to remove the red.
There were three easy-to-swap-out items that would help me here: the rug, the books, and the throw pillows.
RUG: I ordered this amazingly fluffy winter rug from Wayfair:
BOOKS: Rather than buy a whole new set of books, I decided to use some wrapping paper I had on hand. I simply gave all the books a new neutral cover:
THROW PILLOWS: This is where Wayfair came in verrrrry handy! All the pillows I could want right at my fingertips – the hardest part was narrowing it down! I went with a whole bunch of new white pillows to winterize the space:
And then I accessorized with items I already owned and a few new pieces. I stuck to white, gold and silver with touches of blue and greenery. So many surfaces in this room to decorate!
CHANGE 2: THE TREE
With my new office desk arrangement I couldn’t fit my old tree in this room anymore. And I’m not sad about it – half the lights didn’t work and the mechanism to hold up the branches was failing so they slowly drooped toward the ground all Christmas season. Besides, who doesn’t love shopping for a new tree?! I decided I wanted to get a flocked tree this year, and needed the skinniest tree possible for my tiny available corner. When I found this tree at Menards for $99 I knew it was perfect!
Fortunately for me flocked trees are still trending (they’ve been hot in the design blogger world for a couple of years now). If you want to see a whole round up of flocked tree options check out Yellow Brick Home’s post.
Here is how the whole look came together:
If the white, silver, and gold look is something you’d love to add to a room in your home, below are the sources for the pillows, tree, and rug, along with some other lovely items I considered for this space:
